The US embassy is pressurising the Foreign Office to unseal its warehouse located in Sector I-9 that was sealed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) a few days ago for violation of the authority’s building by-laws. “The US embassy is using various tactics to pressurise the Foreign Office to influence the CDA to unseal its warehouse,” government sources said.
They said the US embassy had sent a request to the government to unseal its warehouse and also informed them that the CDA officials manhandled US embassy staff at the warehouse during the operation. Sources said that in this regard, the Foreign Office through the Cabinet Division sought an explanation form the CDA’s directorate concerned, which said the CDA had sealed the warehouse in accordance with rules because illegal construction continued on the premises.
They said the CDA’s enforcement directorate staff was still deputed outside the warehouse. The management of the warehouse had started the construction inside the warehouse without the approval of the building plan by the CDA. The sources said the facility used to be a beverage factory, but the land owner later converted it into a warehouse after seeking permission from CDA.
