The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to record the statements of three activists of the banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir, who went missing from different areas of the country and recently returned to their homes. Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman resumed the hearing of the five identical petitions on the missing activists of HuT, included Imran Yousufzai, Hayyan Dawar Khan, Osama Hanif and Dr Abdul Qayyum. According to their petitions, the missing activists were picked up from different parts of the country by intelligence agencies. Advocate Umer Hayat Sandhu appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioners. The counsel for the petitioners told the court that three missing people including Imran Yousafzai, Hayyan Dawar Khan and Osama Hanif had been recovered and requested the court to record their statements. However, DAG Tariq Mahmood said that the IHC had already referred the case to the commission for missing persons formed by the Supreme Court (SC), so that there was no question of recording of their statements in IHC. However, the chief justice directed him to record the statements of the recovered activists. After hearing arguments, Rehman adjourned the proceedings till October 26. According to the petitions filed in the IHC for the recovery of the HuT men, Imran Yousafzai and Hayyan Dawar Khan were abducted on July 11, Osama Hanif on July 21, Dr Abdul Qayyum on July 27 and Mr Wajid on July 30, alleging that these persons were abducted by the country’s intelligence agencies.
