The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to 15 Pakistani politicians, including President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, in a petition seeking details of the politicians’ assets in foreign banks and also directed all of respondent politicians to file their replies supported by affidavits by the first week of December.
LHC Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry passed the order on an amended petition filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffree, who had moved the main petition on the subject in 1997.
Making them party to the case in the amended petition, the petitioner named President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief Imran Khan, Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and others in the case.
In addition, the federal government, Punjab government and political parties, including the PPP, PML-N and PML-Q, have also been named respondents in the case. The petitioner requested the court to get details of the politicians’ assets and pass orders to the government to freeze their accounts in foreign banks and recover the illegal money accumulated by the political leaders “by misuse of power and corruption”.
Former PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto had also been made party to the case in the main petition, but in the fresh application filed with amendments, the petitioner has replaced Benazir’s name with that of her son Bilawal. The petitioner alleged that most of the politicians and their family members who had been part of governments from 1971 until present amassed illegal assets “by misuse of power” and deposited the ill-gotten money in foreign banks, which the petitioner said damaged the country’s reputation in the comity of nations and put the economy in hot waters. After hearing the arguments, the LHC CJ issued notices to all 15 respondents and directed them to file replies to the matter along with affidavits by the first week of December.

  1. How many notices and decision of supreme court and High Courts have been thrown in the waste paper baskets by our politicians. This notice will also remained un-attended and thrown in the waste paper baskets. In fact Pakistan has no politician, if you watch on the TV a blame game is going on between leaders of different political Parties against each other. Their are no individuals in politics. There are families in Politics, Zardari Family, Nawaz Sharif Family, Ch. Shujaat family, Yusuf Raza Gillani Family, Asfandyar Wali Family, Maulana Fazlur Rehman family and two individuals Altaf Hussain has a Mafia Force. GOOD MAY SAVE PAKISTAN FROM THESE SO CALLED POLITICIANS.
