The ongoing action against target killers, extortionists and terrorists in Sindh will be stepped up without any consideration towards their contacts or political connections, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Interior Minister Rehman Malik decided at a meeting on Tuesday. They extensively reviewed the law and order situation in Karachi and expressed satisfaction that conditions had significantly improved. They also appreciated the services rendered by police and Rangers to curb targeted killing and other criminal activities.
The two agreed that across-the-board action would continue against target killers, extortionists and anti-social elements. The chief minister and the interior minister also decided that they would hold meetings on a regular basis to review the measures taken for improving the law and order situation in the province.
Italian businessmen: The present situation in the rain-hit areas of the province is very alarming and the government has started rehabilitation measures for the affected people, besides providing relief to them, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Tuesday. Shah was talking to a business delegation from Italy and Schon Group executives at the Chief Minister’s House.
“The have been huge losses. People and cattle have died while crops and infrastructure are destroyed,” said the chief minister. “Rainwater has inundated large tracts of land and President Asif Ali Zardari during a video conference has directed us to prepare a master plan for draining water from towns, villages and agricultural lands.” The chief minister said that the task is not easy, but it is very important to chalk out a strategy to drain water from these areas so that people can be saved from diseases. The leader of the Italian delegation, Giuseppe Forlancelli said that on behalf of the Italian government and business group, he expresses sympathies over the heavy destruction in the province.
He offered that his group would assist in the field of construction of roads, bridges and small dams and infrastructure in the affected areas. “The teams of the Sindh government and the Italian business group should discuss and finalise an action plan for this purpose,” he added. Forlanelli announced that the group will bring assistance/investment of around 300 million euro to implement the plan.
