Forty-four days after former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza announced quitting all his party positions, Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro announced on Monday that he has accepted Mirza’s resignation from the legislative assembly seat.
Khuhro was speaking at a press conference held at the Sindh Assembly’s Committee Room, where he said that he had received the resignation on Monday and after fulfilling all required formalities accepted the resignation.
“After confirming Mirza’s handwriting and signature, I also called him on his phone to further confirm his resignation. The resignation has been accepted after fulfilling all required formalities and legal requirements.”
Khuhro said that Mirza’s resignation from the party offices was accepted on the first day, adding that the former minister had not mentioned any reason for resigning. “It is now the Election Commission of Pakistan’s job to conduct by-election on the PS-57, Badin constituency that has fallen vacant with the resignation of Mirza.”
On August 28, Mirza – then Sindh works and services minister – had announced resigning from all Pakistan People’s Party offices, his assembly seat as well as the ministry. Two days later, he told the media that he had handed over his handwritten resignation to Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon.
