As the House unanimously decided to form a special parliamentary committee on power crisis on Monday, winding up debate on power outages in the country, Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar told the National Assembly that lack of governance in the distribution companies was the cardinal cause of the power crisis.
“We are going to change the entire system in the power sector and in this respect PEPCO is going to be dissolved within next 10 to 15 days,” the minister said. PML-N’s Sardar Mehtab Abbasi proposed the formation of the special parliamentary committee on power crisis. “The proposed committee will not only find out reasons behind existing crisis but will also suggest recommendations to resolve the issue,” he said. To that the minister for water and power suggested that the power crisis issue could be referred to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Water and Power.
