Police save capital from destruction, nab 2 terrorists

The capital police on Saturday foiled a terrorist attempt, arrested two alleged terrorists and recovered huge cache of deadly weapons from a vehicle and in a raid on a house during search in Chatta Bakhtawar located in the outskirts of the capital city.
Following the directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Yousuf Malik, security was put on high alert in the city and police officials were directed to maintain high vigilance. In compliance of these directions, special security arrangements were made at exit and entry points of the city, including rural areas, an official said.
On a tip off provided by an informer, a police team was constituted by Superintendent of Police (SP) (Rural) Faisal Bashir Memon and Shehzad Town DSP Khursheed Ahmed Khan, headed by Sub-Inspector Muhammad Latif. This team was performing checking duties at Taramri Chowk when they signaled to stop a suspected vehicle.
The occupant of the vehicle tried to speed away after seeing the police team but the policemen managed to stop it after a brief chase. On search of the car, the police recovered two missiles, one suicide jacket and two hand grenades, besides arresting the car occupant and impounding the vehicle.
During preliminary investigation from the nabbed accused, the police got important clues, the police team raided House No 254, street No 2 in Chatta Bakhtawar located in the limits of Shahzad Town police station and recovered huge cache of deadly arms from there, said Islamabad IGP Bani Amin while talking to reporters. Bani Amin said the police, on receiving information regarding the entry of huge cache of weapons, had put security on high alert. Two property dealers, involved in renting the house to the terrorists, and the owner of the house would be investigated by the police, he said.
The IGP said the police had recovered a total of 90 brain paralysing injections, four suicide jackets, 12 hand grenades, 16 rocket fuses and 14 missiles (106, 107-R) and arrested the man in the vehicle. The police also nabbed one Muhsin during a raid on a house. Investigation is underway from the nabbed persons and important revelations are expected from them.
Bani Amin Khan appreciated the performance of the raiding team and directed the police to further intensify vigilance.
He termed this recovery of huge cache of weapons a great success and said Islamabad police would leave no stone unturned to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. The IGP said the Islamabad police were very much alert and nefarious designs of terrorist elements would be foiled. He added Islamabad had been saved from a great disaster through these recoveries.
