Federal Minister For Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah said on Thursday that suo motto notice should be taken against the closure of the Thar Coal project, adding that work on the project has been restarted.
Talking on point of order here in National Assembly’s session on Thursday, Shah said that work on Thar Coal project is afoot and would be completed by 2015.
He said that Thar Coal project was started during former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s tenure in 1997, but the next government closed the project, which badly affected other energy projects.
He said that the present government has restarted work on the project and, upon completion, it would generate 5000-megawatt power.
He said that work on the other projects, including Gomalzam and Satpara, are also under way, and the government is working on the energy projects on an emergency basis to overcome ongoing energy crises.
