Despite notice, Interior Minister Rehman Malik did not turn up on Wednesday before a judicial commission headed by Justice Ghulam Rabbani of the Supreme Court to question FIA’s retired additional director general Zafar Ahmed Qureshi for his statement alleging that Malik had pressurised him to quit investigation of National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) Rs 5 billion scam.
Instead of appearing before the commission, Malik filed an application stating that he would appear with his legal attorney and needed time, sources told Pakistan Today. The commission accepted his request and adjourned further hearing until Friday. Interior Secretary Khawaja Siddique Akbar filed his affidavit before the commission stating that he did not have any meeting related to NICL with Zafar Qureshi over the NICL scam and Qureshi’s statement was baseless.
The inquiry commission met to ascertain the responsible elements behind the suspension of Qureshi and anti-judiciary campaign in the electronic media with regard to NICL scam.
