Tehreek-e-Istaqlal (TI) President Rehmat Khan Wardeg has accused Maulana Fazlur Rehman of receiving kickbacks from a cement company in the name of donations to madaris.
Levelling serious charges during a press conference on Wednesday at the Lahore Press Club, TI chief said Fazl was in return was assuring that the gas supplies of the cement factories went uninterrupted during peak hours. He further alleged that most of the influential MNAs were doing the same. He said only Sheikh Waqas Akram, Chaudhary Shahid Nazeer and Sahibzada Fazal Karim had no involvement in the corruption spree.
Wardeg said that Punjab should share the smallest fraction of power cuts since the largest chunk of Wapda’s revenue came from its people. He demanded that electricity connections of the federal and provincial departments should be removed for not paying the bills since they were the biggest defaulters. He said PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif became prime minister in 1997 but had not dared to take up the vital project of Kalabagh Dam and was busy garnering support for his party.
He proposed that the government should take up the Munda, Tangi and Akhori dam projects as they were cost effective and would produce more energy than other projects.
