Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday approved the up-gradation of the posts of all teachers, including the physical training instructors (PTIs) working in BS-16 prior to 01-01-2011 under Federal Directorate of Education, to BS-17.
The move is in fulfillment of the announcement made by the prime minister on the occasion of ‘Salam Teachers Day’ on November 8 last year. The newly upgraded posts in BS-17 have been re-designated as the secondary school teachers (SST).
Teachers have thanked Gilani for the provision of better pay and service conditions to them.
Meanwhile, as the world celebrated International Teachers’ Day to pay homage to the nation-builders, the college teachers working under the federal government College, who are frustrated over the ‘government’s attitude’, marked the day as the black day.
Responding to the call of Federal Government College Teacher Association (FGCTA), around three hundreds college teachers assembled at D-Chowk near the Parliament House to register their protest against their pending promotions. Holdings black flags, the protesters chanted slogans against the government over its failure to upgrade their service under the time Scale Formula.
Speaking on the occasion, FGCTA President Zahid Ali Shah said teachers’ community was observing a black day as they had no option but to take to the streets against the government ‘discriminatory’ attitude.
Prof Khalida Makhdoom said they had been struggling for their up-gradation since they were assured by former prime minister Shaukat Aziz on World Teachers Day in 2006 and later on by the incumbent premier last year.
FGCTA representative Prof Tahir said the officials of FDE and CAAD were playing with the sentiments of teachers with a lollypop.
Meanwhile, teachers continued their boycott of classes on Wednesday and reiterated that they would not take any class till the fulfillment of their demand.
