Load-shedding irks Christians celebrating Xmas

LAHORE – Load shedding did not even spare Christians on Christmas, as unscheduled power outages continued in the city on Saturday. Electricity was closed for four to seven hours in various areas of Lahore creating difficulties for the masses.
Although all businesses, offices, banks, markets, educational institutions and industries were closed due to a public holiday and power demand was 30 percent less than usual, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) deprived people of electricity at repeated intervals.
In some areas, electricity was closed under garb of technical repairs early in the morning but was resorted in the afternoon. In many areas of Lahore, electricity remained suspended from 9am to 1pm in name of technical repairs adding to miseries of the masses.
People said that repairs could have been done on Sunday and LESCO should have made alternate plans for Christmas. Load shedding continued on Christmas Eve as well irking citizens. Christians expressed their displeasure over unscheduled load shedding and accused LESCO of ruining their happiness on Christmas.
Minorities said that they had several plans for celebrating the day but LESCO had spilt water on them. “When I woke up in the morning there was no electricity and I had to wear clothes in dark. Thank God, I had ironed my clothes yesterday,” said Fayyaz Iftekhar adding that his family also faced similar problems.
