Punjab Health Secretary Jahanzeb Khan on Tuesday issued instructions to the King Edward Medical University (KEMU) vice-chancellor, Children Hospital dean and principals of medical colleges to make professors and senior consultants duty bound to examine dengue patients in mornings and evenings, on a daily basis, adding that they should also fill patients’ charts with a view to saving lives of patients admitted in the high dependency units of teaching hospitals. Jahanzeb directed that in case of a patient’s death, the medical record should be conveyed to the Punjab Health director general within 24 hours of the death. Hospital administrations were also provided with investigation forms which they should fill and attach with their reports in all such cases. These files would be reviewed to draw conclusions and continuously improve the management of critical dengue patients.
