President Asif Ali Zardari said Pakistan has paid the heaviest price in the war against terrorism and is still determined to pursue the struggle to its logical conclusion. Zardari was speaking during his meeting here at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday with UK shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander. Douglas was accompanied by UK High Commissioner Adam Thomson, senior advisor Tom Price and Jasper Thornton.
The Pakistani side included Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Federal Minister for Finance Salman Farooqi, Secretary General to the President, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar. Offering a briefing on the meeting, Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said Pak-UK Enhanced Strategic Dialogue, war against militants, recent floods, UK assistance and the regional situation was discussed in the meeting.
Douglas Alexander expressed sympathy over the flood devastation. He said Pakistan’s sacrifices were appreciated and he hoped the international community will assist the Government of Pakistan to build greater institutional capacity.
