Qadri’s supporters take to streets

Supporters of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer’s killer, Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, took to the streets to condemn the capital punishment awarded to Qadri by Ant-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi. A large number of protesters majority of whom were students of local seminaries gathered here outside the National Press Club. While chanting slogans against the court decision and the government, the protesters blocked the road by burning tyres. Later, they moved towards the parliament house and staged a sit-in.
Speaking on the occasion, principal of a seminary, Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali said hundreds of lawyers and bar associations of the country had passed resolutions that Mumtaz Qadri could not be punished. He termed the court decision was against the law. The protesters appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to annul the decision of the ATC.
