Tomato, onion prices go up in Sunday bazaars

The prices of vegetables in the city’s Sunday bazaars witnessed a slight decrease as compared to previous week’s rates. However, this Sunday, the prices of tomatoes and onions witnessed an increase of Rs 10 and Rs 2 per kg respectively. This Sunday, the increasing prices of tomato, onion and peas added to the woes of already inflation stricken people. According to vegetable vendors, due to the recent floods in Sindh, the government has been importing tomatoes from neighboring India, which cost more. According to price lists at Sunday bazaars, this week tomatoes were sold at Rs 80 per kg against last week’s rate of Rs 70 per kg and onions were sold at Rs 40 per kg against last week’s rate of Rs 38 per kg.
Similarly, the prices of peas witnessed an increase of Rs 20 per kg as this week it was sold at Rs 120 per kg against the previous week’s rate of Rs 100 per kg. The prices of almost all other items witnessed a slight decrease. This week the prices of pumpkin, garlic, tori, ginger, brinjal, cucumber and lemon witnessed a significant decrease. This week potato was sold at Rs 33 per kg, potato (store) at Rs 18 per kg, ginger and garlic were sold at Rs 72 each per kg. tori was sold at Rs 46 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 50 per kg, brinjal at Rs 40 per kg, cucumber at Rs 50 and lemon at Rs 120 per kg. Similarly, this week, peas was sold at Rs 120 per kg, green chilli at Rs 80 per kg, black pepper at Rs 80 per kg, cabbage at Rs 30 per kg and cauliflower at Rs 60 per kg.
This week the price of chicken also witnessed a slight decrease, this week it was sold at Rs 110 per kg against previous week’s rate of Rs 115 per kg. In the fruit section, this week the prices of almost all fruit items witnessed a slight increase as compared to previous Sunday’s rates.
