The dengue epidemic carried on in full flow on Friday, claiming another five lives and infecting hundreds more in worst-hit Lahore. Actress Saba Qamar was the latest high-profile personality to fall victim to the deadly virus, as she tested positive for dengue on Friday. The Punjab Health Department confirmed only 379 fresh cases, but independent sources said the actual number was much higher.
Some 1,151 dengue patients are currently admitted to various hospitals of Lahore, while those being treated at home are not included in the official count. Experts claim the number of dengue patients may have climbed to six figures in actuality. However, the official death toll in the city from the tropical fever has reached 116, and nine have died of dengue in other cities of Punjab.
