Police on Wednesday managed to keep People’s Youth Organisation (PYO)’s protesters away from the Peshawar High Court Bar where Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani was addressing a lawyers’ convention. The demonstrators, led by their provincial leaders Gohar Ali Inqilabi and Misbah-ud-din, marched from Jail Road to the Peshawar Press Club and held a rally at the Sher Shah Suri Road.
They told reporters that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership had completely ignored party workers and had failed to address their problems. They said their aim was to remind the leadership that their demands had not been fulfilled and developmental schemes had been confined to specific constituencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The angry demonstrators said the party leadership, after coming into power, had turned their backs on them, adding that workers had sacrificed their lives during election campaigns.
They said that the prime minister had not kept his promises and had done nothing for the welfare of the PYO workers.
