An accountability court on Wednesday acquitted Khalifa Abdul Qayyum, Qazi Naseer Ahmed and Aslam Bajwa, who were accused of embezzlement along with former Kazakhstan honorary consulate Seth Nisar Ahmed.
The court acquitted the accused and accepted their application filed under the Section 256-K CrPC seeking an acquittal on the basis of false charges. According to details, a reference had been filed against the accused on the charges of embezzlement in custom duty during the import of metal sheets for Irfan Seamless Pipe Industries owned by Nisar. The accused imported metal sheets and mentioned them in documents as scrap. They allegedly embezzled millions of rupees in this manner.
During the trial, the accused filed an application under Section 256-K CrPC which said that they were innocent and had been charged on baseless grounds. The court accepted the application and acquitted the accused. Separately, an accountability court acquitted former WAPDA sub-divisional officer (SDO) Rizwan Ahmed accused of making illegal assets in his and his dependants name. During the trial, the prosecution failed to establish charges against the accused on which Rizwan was acquitted.
