Run-away locomotive covers 16km without driver

The locomotive of a goods train covered 16 kilometres without driver from Kundian to Mianwali railway station on Tuesday. Asstt Traffic Officer Naseer Ahmed Khan said a 5041 series locomotive for a special goods train was standing at the Kundian railway shed for repair when it began to move due to a fault in its electric system.
Staff present tried to board and stop the train but in vain and the locomotive reached the Mianwali station after covering 16 km distance in an hour and reached a maximum speed of 40 kilometre per hour. The railway engine passed four crossings in Mianwali city but fortunately no unpleasant incident took place. Mianwali railway station staff put the engine on a dead-end line and brought it to a halt.
