Around 150 teachers of various colleges affiliated with the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) on Monday staged a protest demonstration at the Federal Government College for Women F/7 against the failure to upgrade of their scales through Time Scale Promotion Formula (TSPF). The college teachers’ promotion was the part of a package, which was announced by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on October 8, 2010. The protest call was given by Federal Government Colleges Teachers Association (FGCTA). Holding placards and wearing black strips on their arms, the protesters press their demand of immediate implementation.
“We are nation builders; we are producing doctors, engineers and professionals…But we are still deprived of our due right of promotion,” said Professor Tahir, an office bearer of FGCTA. The protesters were of view that they would boycott the classes from September 28 (Wednesday) to October 1 (Saturday) in first two periods while a protest would be held in front of the National Press Club with full day boycott of classes on October 3. The teachers has planned to observe a full day boycott of classes from October 4 (Tuesday) to October 5 (Wednesday) and will hold a protest in front of the Parliament House from October 6 (Thursday) till fulfillment of their demands. Talking to Pakistan Today, Professor Yasmeen Rehman expressed deep concern over the indifferent attitude of the federal government towards up-gradation of college teachers. She demanded the prime minister to honour his pledge. “We have been waiting for the last one year that the promise made by the PM will be honoured,” she added. According to the PM’s package, the Grade-16 teachers having five-year experience will be promoted to the next scale while those with a seven-year experience in Grade-17 are supposed to be promoted to Grade-18.
