Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said on Monday that Pakistan would continue to pursue reforms in key areas to achieve sustainable growth. In his meetings with senior IMF and World Bank leaders, Shaikh said Islamabad was serious to reforming its power sector.
We would continue to implement a restraint fiscal policy and would look to mobilise taxes, he said. IMF Deputy Managing Director Nemat Shafik lauded the results in the first two months of the current fiscal year and proposed technical assistance on matters of interest to Pakistan.
The World Bank agreed to provide IBRD financing to help Pakistan complete the Tarbela IV project, which would add 1300MW to the power generation capacity.
