LAHORE – Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Ijazul Hassan concluded the hearing in a fake degree case against National Assembly member Rana Zahid Hussain and will announce his verdict on January 28, 2011.
Waheed Sabir, a citizen of Arifwala, filed a writ petition in the LHC, stating that Rana Zahid had a fake bachelors degree so he stood disqualified. It was stated in the petition that the legislator had submitted a BA degree from Sindh University to the election tribunal in 2002, which was rejected by Justice Nasim Sikandar, presiding officer of the tribunal.
Later, Rana produced another fake BA degree from Balochistan University regarding which Abdul Khaliq, registrar of the university, told the court that there was no record of this degree with the varsity.
Waheed Sabir, through his counsel Malik Noor Muhammad Awan, contended that the MNA was not eligible for contesting election as he possessed a fake BA degree. The court adjourned the case for announcing its verdict till January 28.
