The family of a 14-year-old boy, who was kidnapped for ransom and latter killed, continues to receive death threats by the culprits, forcing them to stop pursuing the case in court, Pakistan Today has learned.
The culprit, Amir Sajjad, who is currently on a judicial remand, has been forcing the family of the deceased, Faizan Tariq, to back off from the case. Tariq’s family claims that Amir had been threatening them for dire consequences, if they dared to present another eyewitness in court.
Tariq was kidnapped from Misri Shah on May 7 and the abductors had asked for Rs 6 million from the family, reported victim’s father, Tariq Mehmood, a resident of Farooq Ganj Town, Misri Shah. The police found the boy’s body on May 11, and after identifying the body, raids were conducted to catch the culprit and two other men involved in the abduction; Ramzan and Javed.
During a raid, Ramzan and Javed were killed in an encounter when the culprits fired bullets on the police, while the main convict, Amir, was arrested. The boy’s father, Tariq, while talking to Pakistan Today claimed that with the help of his friend, Amir filed an application in the police station against them which was hindering the case’s progress.
“They file applications and don’t show up themselves, holding back the case from progressing,” said Tariq. He said that due to threats, witnesses were refusing to show up in court. “The man from whom Amir borrowed a motorbike to execute the kidnapping has backed off from the case after Amir threatened him,” he added. However the investigators were completely unaware of the threats which the victim’s family has been receiving.
The investigation officer said because the victim’s family had not complained about any threats, they had not provided the family with any security.
