At least four militants were killed and a commander injured in a bomb attack in the inaccessible Tirrah Valley of the Khyber Agency on Friday.
Officials said militants belonging to the banned Lashkar Islam were on board the vehicle targeted with an Improvise Explosive Devise (IED). They said the IED was planted by militants from a rival group. Four militants died on the spot while commander Zanjeer Khan has sustained serious injuries. The incident occurred in Mastak village in Akakhel area, considered a strong hold for rival militant group Ansar Ul Islam.
Lashkar Islam and Ansar Ul Islam militants have been fighting against each other for several years, at the cost of multiple lives on both sides and from neutral tribes. Security forces had pushed the rival groups back from Bara plains to the inaccessible mountainous regions of Tirrah. Tirrah is now the battle ground between the militants from conflicting schools of thoughts.
