Businessmen of Karachi complained to Army chief General Ashfaq Kayani that the city’s police which, was already politicised, misguided the Rangers. They told the army chief that the Rangers should not rely on information and guidelines provided by the Sindh Police as it was not reliable.
Talking to Pakistan Today, All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Chairman Atiq Mir, who met the army chief along with other businessmen at the Rangers Headquarters-5 on Wednesday, said the Rangers should themselves set up a centre such as the complaint center-15 of police to receive direct complaints and information from the general public, besides installing “Mobile Phone Locators” at the Rangers Headquarters to locate the network of extortionist and other criminals, the traders suggested.
According to Mir, the traders had assured Gen Kayani that they would welcome an army action in Karachi. According to him, the army chief said the army would not let the Rangers fail in ensuring peace and security in the financial powerhouse of the country. Mir quoted the army chief as saying that the army would avoid any action that interferes in the judicial and police system.
