In the light of information received from secret agencies regarding a potential terrorist attack, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir put the city on red alert with immediate effect on Thursday. In his order, the CCPO said that in view of secret information received from sister agencies, there was a strong likelihood of an attack on police establishment and police offices were likely to be targeted by terrorists. He said that strict steps and measures should be taken to protect police offices, important government buildings, press club, mosques, imambargahs and places of religious congregation.
Tahir said that the code of conduct formulated by the government in coordination with various schools of thought should be followed, according to which there was a strict ban on all provocative speeches and hate-mongering material. The CCPO said that security arrangements of mosques and imambargahs should be further strengthened with help of local organisers. He said that foolproof security could not be ensured without the active assistance and cooperation of people. The CCPO told divisional superintendents of police (SP) to take effective steps to nab criminal elements and terrorists and bring them before the court of law.
