The Lahore High Court has given another opportunity to the federal government to respond to court notice on a constitutional petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani under high treason charges for continuously defying orders of superior judiciary and for attempting to subvert the constitution. As the court resumed hearing on Thursday, no body was present in court to represent the government. On the previous hearing, Justice Umar Ata Bandial had observed that if the government failed again to make its representation before the court, the court would appoint a senior lawyer as amicus curie (friend of court) to proceed with the matter. However, in order to fulfill requirements of complete justice, the judge gave another opportunity to the government and adjourned hearing till October 4.
