The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Wednesday launched the ‘Dengue Mukao, Awam Bachao, Eliminate Dengue to Save Masses’ Campaign in the city. PTI Lahore President Mahmood Rashid, who was supervising the campaign, announced that around 10 vehicles under supervision of party volunteers sprayed at the union council level to prevent dengue. He accused the Punjab government of criminal negligence as far as the dengue issue was concerned and said that the Punjab chief minister, instead of initiating solid steps to save people from the epidemic, was using the issue for political gains.
Talking to journalists at the PTI Lahore office along with General Secretary Dr Zamurad Ras, Insaaf Traders Wing President Mustafa Rashid, Ahmed Nasir, Dr Atif and Yasir Gilani, Mahmood said that thousands of PTI workers would voluntarily participate in the spray campaign and initially the spray was started with 10 vehicles but the number of spray vehicles would be enhanced within the next few days.
Providing details of the spray campaign, he said that the spray would be completed under PTI organisers at the UC level. The PTI leader said that the spray, being started by PTI volunteers, would not only kill mosquitoes but also eliminate their larva.
He said that a public awareness campaign would also be initiated and hundreds of thousands of pamphlets would be distributed among the masses to educate people about dengue.
Lamenting over the Punjab government’s lethargic attitude towards public awareness about dengue, he said that various departments had cautioned the government about dengue outbreak in January but the CM paid no heed to the warning and as a result people were suffering badly and losing their loved ones.
Mahmood said that murder cases must be registered against the Punjab government.
The PTI leader said that millions of rupees were spent on personal publicity and valuable public money was being wasted by giving advertisements in the media but now public could not be befooled by such tricky steps. He said that provincial government has failed to safeguard lives.
No elections for politicians not declaring assets: PTI leaders have proposed that politicians and parties, who did not declare their assets, should not be allowed to take part in elections. PTI Punjab President Ahsan Rashid, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Andleeb Abbas made this proposal while commenting on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif’s demand that all organisations with militant wings should not be allowed to participate in elections.
The PTI leaders said that the criteria demanded by the PML-N president for contesting polls should not be restricted to organisations with militant wings but politicians and political parties with undeclared assets should also be banned from taking part in elections.
They proposed that there should be complete criteria of disqualification of parties, which include declaration of assets, NOC for non-involvement in militant activities, corruption records and NRO concessions.
The PTI leaders said that the party demands the Election Commission of Pakistan make these proposals criteria for all parties for taking part in elections.
