ISTANBUL: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan need to work together to enhance connectivity and create institutional framework as well as infrastructure for promoting trade.
He said this during his meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva on the sidelines of the 11th Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) summit on Wednesday.
Matters relating to bilateral relations, mutual cooperation and further strengthening trade and economic relations were deliberated during the meeting. The President stated that bilateral trade between the two countries remains much below the real potential.
“We need to work together to improve the working and implementation of the Quadripartite Agreement on Transit trade,” he said.
The President expressed hope that better implementation of Quadrilateral Agreement would help to improve and to realise the full potential of the trade equation.
The President, while congratulating President of Kyrgyz Roza Otunbayeva, on successful holding of elections and formation of government said that Pakistan attaches great importance to taking further steps for strengthening bilateral relations. He said that Pakistan greatly appreciates the support that it got from the Kyrgyz government in ensuring protection of Pakistani students. The President also extended invitation to Roza Otunbayeva to visit Pakistan.
