ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Division on Wednesday told National Assembly in writing that Capital Development Authority (CDA) had taken various measures to protect wildlife in Margalla hills.
The CDA’s measures regarding protection of wildlife include promulgation of Islamabad Wildlife Ordinance, Declaration of Margalla Hills National Park in 1980 and Framing of Islamabad Wildlife Rules 1983.
The CDA has established an independent directorate of zoo in CDA’s environment wing for protection and conservation of wildlife in Margalla Hills National Park. Owing to conservation measures of CDA, the number of animals and birds has increased manifold. Margallah hills National Park can be declared as one of the best protected National Park of Pakistan, the division further told the house.
Margalla Hills was declared as National park in 1980. The total area of National park is more than 39,000 acres. Major animals in Margalla hills include leopard, rhesus macaque (Monkey), grey goral, barking deer, jungle cat, porcupine, cape hare, Himalayan palm civet, red fox, Asiatic jackal, white crested kalji pheasant, golden oriole, paradise flycatcher, grey shrike, spotted dove etc.
