Vegetable prices escalate in capital’s Sunday bazaars

The prices of most of vegetables witnessed a significant increase in Sunday bazaars of the capital against the previous week’s rates.
This week the prices of tomato, which has been facing ups and downs for the last three weeks, once again witnessed an increase of Rs 14 per kg and was sold at Rs 50 against the previous week’s rate of Rs 36 per kg. According to the price list of Sunday bazaars, this week the prices of ladyfinger, pumpkin, brinjal, peas, black pepper, lemon and green chili witnessed a significant increase as compared to the last Sunday’s prices.
This week, the prices of potato and onion also witnessed a slight increase. However, prices of chicken, ginger and garlic decreased.
According to the price list, this week tomato was sold at Rs 50 and ladyfinger at Rs 60 as compared to the last week’s rate of Rs 50 per kg. Similarly, the prices of pumpkin jumped from Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg. This week, the prices of brinjal witnessed an increase of Rs 12 as it was sold at Rs 36 against the previous week’s prices of Rs 24. The price of peas witnessed an increase of Rs 20 per kg and was sold at Rs 100 against the previous week’s rate of Rs 80.
The prices of green chili and black pepper also jumped from Rs 44 to Rs 60 and Rs 60 to Rs 80, respectively. The price of lemon also increased from Rs 112 to Rs 124 per kg. This week potato was sold at Rs 34 and onion at Rs 33 per kg.
Meanwhile, the prices of most of fruits remained stable. However, the prices of apple (golden) registered an increase of Rs 10 per kg and sold at Rs 100. The prices of banana witnessed decrease of Rs 10 per dozen as this week it was sold at Rs 50 per dozen. The price of chicken witnessed a decrease of Rs 10 per kg and was sold at Rs 117 against the previous week’s rate of Rs 127 per kg.
