Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan on Saturday said there was zero tolerance towards corruption in the country’s judiciary and many judges in lower courts had been sacked for corruption.
He was addressing the 18th roll-signing ceremony of newly enrolled advocates of the Supreme Court. Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, said that bar and bench must work hard to provide speedy justice to the litigants at their doorsteps.
“After restoration of the independent judiciary, the responsibility of bench and bar had increased and now the both would have to work hard to ensure speedy justice to litigants at their doorsteps,” Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan said. He also hailed the newly enrolled advocates of the Supreme Court for achieving the enrollment which certainly enhanced their responsibilities, asking them to work with commitment, hardworking, sense of duty and dedication in interpretation of the constitution.
“I am quite confident that you would put in all your efforts to assist the bench in dispensation of justice to facilitate the litigants and civil society and work for supremacy of the constitution and rule of law besides upholding the independence of the judiciary,” Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan said. He said that due to the National Judicial Policy, a good number of cases had been disposed of and relief had been provided to the litigants and the policy had enhanced the responsibility of the bench and bar.
Earlier, Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain welcomed the newly enrolled advocates of the apex court and conducted the proceedings of the ceremony.
