The Gulberg Police arrested four people on Friday on suspicion of being involved in the kidnapping of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer’s son Shahbaz Taseer. Heavy police contingents raided a katchi abadi near FC College and arrested four people identified as Javed Munawar, Vicky, Sarwar and Ijaz.
After the raid, local residents staged a protest against the Gulberg Police alleging that police had also arrested a man named Iftikhar a few days ago from the same locality. They claimed that the raiding team also thrashed a local resident and policemen made off with valuables after breaking into six houses which were locked earlier.
On being contacted, Model Town Investigation Superintendent of Police (SP) Shoaib Khurram Janbaaz said that police high-ups have transferred the case’s investigation to the CIA so he was not aware about any raid in the locality. To a question, he said that there was no truth regarding involvement of university professors in Shahbaz’s kidnapping.
