R ainwater has been drained from all major thoroughfares of the city and now it is being pumped out from inner roads and streets, Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mohammad Hussain Syed said during his visit to Saddar Town and different localities of old city area on Wednesday.
“All town administrations and city government departments concerned have been directed to pay special attention to cleaning works and it would be completed as soon as possible,” he added. The DCO warned that disciplinary action would be taken against city government officers, especially the engineers of the Works and Services Department, if they show negligence in the removal of garbage and waste from roads and other maintenance works.
He said that an extensive fumigation campaign has been initiated in city which will continue till November. Four towns will be covered daily during the campaign. Later, speaking at a meeting held to review arrangements for rains in the city, Syed observed that the performance of the Works and Services Department was not up to the mark during the recent rains resulting in the suspension of two negligent officers.
Works and Services EDO Altaf G Memon and Health EDO Dr. Nasir Javed were among those who attended the meeting.
