ANP leader killed in IED attack

Awami National Party leader Sher Mohammad Khan from Lower Dir was killed and three security guards seriously injured in an Improvise Explosive Device (IED) attack on Tuesday. Police officials said Sher Mohammad was traveling from Bandai Maidan to Timergara town when his vehicle was hit by an IED. He died on the spot while three body guards were seriously injured. His body and the injured bodyguards were shifted into District Headquarter Hospital Timergara.
The injured were said to be stable. Police officials said around 10 kilograms of high intensity explosive was used in the IED attack against the local ANP leader. Security forces rushed to the site of the attack and stated a search operation. Police officials confirmed they had arrested 40 persons including khateebs of local mosques and madrassa administrators. Sher Mohammad Khan was amongst the active elders from the Maidan area.
He had played a key role in organizing of the local lashkars against militants. The chief of banned Tehrik Nifaz Shariah Mohammadi (TNSM) Maulana Sufi Mohammad also belongs to the Maidan region. Sufi Mohammad along with confidential aides has been imprisoned in Peshawar jail since mid-2009 when the armed forces initiated military action against militants.
