Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar has won the David Shepherd Trophy for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Umpire of the Year for the third year running. He beat competition from Steve Davis, Ian Gould and five-time winner Simon Taufel.
He was given this award by the 10 full member captains as well as the eight-man Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, based on his decision statistics and officiating skills over the past 12 months.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s pace bowler Umar Gul has been named part of the ICC One-Day International (ODI) Team of the Year in which India’s MS Dhoni has been chosen as the captain. The team was chosen by a specially appointed selection panel chaired by West Indian batting legend and former captain Clive Lloyd. The rest of the panel were former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas, former England captain Mike Gatting, former New Zealand bowler Danny Morrison and former South African bowler Paul Adams.
