Social workers and analysts have urged wealthy people, agencies and relief organizations to come forward and provide maximum relief for the flood victims. Talking to Radio Pakistan, analyst Dr Mehdi Hassan said last year’s flood victims’ rehabilitation was still underway and added to their miseries were this year’s floods and rains which were causing more havoc in Sindh. He suggested the resources of Pakistan’s civil society institutions should be sufficient enough to deal with the situation and provide relief for the flood victims. Social worker Amir Mandro said philanthropists, international relief organizations, and multinational companies should come forward to provide the necessary facilities to the flood victims. He said the United Nations Development Programme was working in the areas but everyone would have to chip in to help the victims as the government alone could not effectively tackle the situation. Sukkur-based journalist Sohail Memon said rescue was the first priority in the flood hit areas. He said all the villages were under water and mud houses would soon collapse in these conditions. Provincial Minister for Rehabilitation Haji Muzaffar Ali Shujra has said the government had been providing food and shelter for the last month and now needed additional support.
