ISLAMABAD: The House Business Advisory Committee of the National Assembly on Monday decided that the National Assembly would take up various bills pending for legislation during the current session apart from discussion on other issues concerning the public. Faisal Karim Kundi, NA Deputy Speaker chaired the meeting.
The government bills which are ready for passage and likely to be tabled in the House include: the National Commission for Human Development (Amendment) Bill, 2009; the Federal Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2009; the Boilers and Pressure Vessels (Amendment) Bill, 2009; the National Defence University Bill, 2009; the Banks (Nationalisation) (Amendment) Bill, 2010; the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority Bill, 2010; the Banking Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2010; the Press, Newspapers, News Agencies and Book Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2008; the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2008; the National Vocational and Technical Education Commission Bill, 2008; the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2007; the Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2010; the Federal Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2009; the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2008 and The Pakistan Trade Control of Wild Fauna and Flora Bill, 2010. After a thorough discussion, it was decided that the 27th Session of the National Assembly would continue till 7th January, 2011.
Minister links sugar price reduction with international market: Industries and Production State Minister Dr Ayatullah Durrani informed the National Assembly on Monday that no reduction in sugar prices was likely at Utility Stores until its price in the international market began to dip. In response to a call attention notice moved by Pakistani Muslim League-Nawaz members national assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, Nisar Tanveer, Nuzhat Sadiq regarding increase in the prices of ghee, oil and other essential commodities at Utility Stores, Durrani said that long queues at the stores were an evidence that quality products were being provided to the masses on reduced rates at the stores.
The minister said that there was a comprehensive mechanism for quality control and the government would not compromise on the quality of the commodities being provided to the masses at Utility Stores. He said that the prices of ghee surged due to increase in palm oil price at the international market that was soaring $100 ton per month since November last year.
842 Pakistanis in Indian jails: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi informed the National Assembly on Monday that 842 Pakistanis prisoners were languishing in different Indian jails and the government was making all possible efforts for their release. “Total number of Pakistanis in Indian Jails is 842 out of which 736 are civilians, 88 are fishermen and 18 are missing defence personnel”, he told.
