Cracks in former president Pervaiz Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) have widened as another party office bearer resigned from the post in protest against certain elements in the party who were ‘playing non-political games’.
Punjab APML Information Secretary Javaid Badr, ahead of Musharraf’s address to the student wing of APML on Saturday, tendered his resignation from the party to APML Punjab President Fawad Chauhdry. He said he was an honest man and wanted to follow in the footsteps of Musharraf but he could not be the part of extra political activity in the party and was only willing to extend Musharraf’s agenda.
“Some members of the party are plundering the resources provided by Musharraf and are trying to stop him from returning to Pakistan so that they can continue doing so,” Badr said while talking to Pakistan Today. He claimed that some elements in the party were hindering him from performing his allocated duties and he could not deal with their immature, non-political attitudes and it was best that he work for the party as an ordinary worker.
Earlier in August , a blow struck APML when veteran politician and close aide to Musharraf, Sher Afgan Khan Niazi resigned from the slot of senior vice president of the APML as well as basic membership of the party. Niazi also cited the same reasons that Badr mentioned in his resignation and claimed that he still considered Musharraf as his leader. He said that it was no longer a matter of settling differences and that he could no longer think of returning to the party.
Dr Niazi said, “There is no need to work with people who lack approach to transform the newly-born party into a real political entity.” He further said that even after spending a long time of 40 years in politics, he could not understand the ‘political wisdom’ of such ‘brainy politicians’.
