LAHORE: Pakistan Inter-Varsity Women’s Athletics Championship rolled in to action here at the Punjab Stadium on Monday, with the host Punjab University dominating the opening dayof the event.
Abida Tanveer, President Punjab University Women’s Sports Tournament Committee, inaugurated the championship. On the opening day, PU’s Sobia Sultana finished the 400m distance in one minute and 13 seconds to win the gold medal. Sameera Pervaiz of PU and Sana Ikram of Karachi University claimed second and third places, respectively.
Naseem Akhtar of Punjab University won the 3000m race, clocking 14 minutes and 25 seconds. She was followed by Fara Tayyaba of KU and Sameera of PU at second and third positions. PU’s Madiha Latif won the discus throw event with a throw of 33.33 meters. Sobia of PU was second and Nazish of Lahore College of Women University secured the third place.
