Labi Khel Students (LKS) from Jana Korh Frontier Region (FR) Peshawar staged a protest against Assistant Political Agent (APA) for allegedly violating the amended Frontier Crime Regulations (FCR) Act outside the Cantonment Railway Station on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, LKS President Ata ul Karim said, “APA Zaheeruddin Babar is still resorting to the archaic FCR system after it was amended. He has held ‘hostage’ an entire tribe living in the Jana Korh areas under the ‘collective responsible act’ and imposed a heavy penalty on it. The act has been abolished.”
Protestors held placards and banners with slogans against the APA and in favour of the amended FCR. The students led by president Atta and general secretary Farmanullah Khan, also, demanded action against the APA.
They said an individual named Sardar whose ancestors had migrated from Nowshera to the agency had been allowed to take permanent residence in the area by the Labi Khel tribe with 15 other families on the condition that they follow the terms of the Labi Khel tribe.
They said Sardar, however, began illegal activities and began committing robberies and open a gambling den in the agency upon which the APA issued orders to arrest him but he fled. Labi Khel tribe elders disowned the accused but the APA threatened the tribe and put heavy charges against them using the old FCR, even though Sardar and his relatives did not belong to any Afridi tribe. They said the APA had violated the amended FCR and banned the movement of the Labi Khel tribe instead of arresting the accused or his close relatives. Protestors demanded President Asif Zardari, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Masood Kausar, Secretary FATA and other officials on FATA affairs to take action against the APA from not implementing the amended FCR.
