An Eid that went by happily

Forgetting inflation, power outages and the law and order situation in the country temporarily, Lahoris celebrated Eidul Fitr with zeal and fervour.
Eidul Fitr is celebrated as a reward for the faithful who fast and offer special prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. This year around the national mood was sombre because of floods in the country, especially in Sindh.
Exchange of Eid gifts, sweets and Eidi remained the hallmark of the occasion.
Parks, cinemas, restaurants, the Lahore Zoo and other recreational spots witnessed great crowds during the three days of Eid festivities.
Because of the muggy conditions on the first day of Eid, people preferred outing.
Even during an economic crunch, people followed old Eid traditions such as giving Eidi to their married daughters and visiting graves of dead loved ones. People were found complaining against the exorbitant prices of flowers to be laid on the graves of their late near and dear ones.
People extended Eid greeting to each other using short message service (SMS) and threw dinner parties.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry offered Eid prayers at Data Darbar Mosque, Punjab Governor Latif Khosa at the Badshahi Mosque, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at the Jati Umra. Meanwhile, huge Eid prayer congregations were held at Minar-e-Pakistan, Jamia Naeemia, Jamia Ashrafia, Model Town Central Ground and Bagh-e-Jinnah.
New Lollywood movies also attracted people looking for Eid entertainment.
Girls and women with henna done on their hands on Chaand Raat, wore special dresses with matching bangles and shoes.
Children, after becoming rich by getting Eidi, rushed to the shops to buy their favourite items. Some children also complained about less Eidi compared to last year.
While indoors, people remained glued to the television screens watching the special Eid transmissions of various television channels. People loved to see their favourite actors, news anchors and other celebrities in their lighter mode.
People took Eid as the best chance to enjoy their favourite food and had a good time in the food streets and the restaurants offering continental and fast food.
