The business community of Peshawar on Tuesday demanded an end to unscheduled power load shedding, saying that it would help boost business activities.
Markaz-e-Tanzeem Tajiran (MTT) officials said PESCO had announced lesser load shedding and availability of electricity during ‘Iftaar’ and ‘Sehr’ times but it could not live up to its promise, adding that relief should be given at least during Eid.
MTT Provincial President Haji Haleem Jan told traders in a meeting at Qisa Khawani Bazaar that the increased demand of electricity on Eid-ul-Fitr was justified, adding that excessive load shedding was done during Ramadan, compelling frequent protest demonstrations in various parts of the city.
Jan said the region was producing electricity but was still suffering the most. He said further the authorities concerned had not lived up to their promises. He said the business community had failed to reap benefits from the special selling season due to exorbitant load shedding. Various protests had been held against power load shedding in Ramadan as people were enraged on the excessive power outages. Protestors in Charsadda had also stoned grid stations. Murshidabad, Regi, University Road, Kohat Road, Dannishabad, Dalazak, Zaryab Colony, Chamkani, Jhagra, Urmar, Chulgalpura, Lala Kalay, Nothia in Saddar Bazaar and Sikandarpura presented a deserted look in the holy month.
