Around 13,000 police officials would be deployed in the provincial capital while all divisional superintendents of police (SPs) would patrol their respective areas to ensure peace on Eid-ul-Fitr, said Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir on Friday.
While addressing a meeting of senior police officials, the CCPO said the Lahore police would leave no stone unturned in protecting the life and property of citizens. He said an effective strategy had been developed to maintain peace and foil nefarious designs of anti-social elements. The CCPO said around 200 mobile squads would patrol the city for 24 hours and an additional force in uniform and civvies would be deployed in the provincial capital to avert possible violence.
Ahmad said the police had been directed to deal with lawbreakers and miscreants with an iron hand. He said Emergency 15 would also remain on high alert and respond quickly to all complaints. The CCPO directed divisional SPs to ensure all suspicious and unattended vehicles were searched and passengers frisked at bus stands and railway stations. The Investigation Wing officials would also patrol the areas, he added.
Ahmad said a special control room had also been established at his office to monitor the overall situation and keep in touch with other departments. Stern legal action would be taken against bomb hoaxers and arrangements had been made to trace their calls, he added. He said police officials carrying metal detectors would be deployed in and around all mosques and Imam Bargahs.
Special police camps would be setup at important markets of the city for public convenience, said the CCPO. He directed Lahore chief traffic officer to ensure smooth flow of traffic during Eid holidays so that Lahoris did not have to face difficulty commuting. He further appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the police and inform them about suspicious activities or individuals on any of the given numbers: Emergency Control 15, Qurban Control 99200269 and Traffic Control 99201910.
