Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday accused Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani of choosing the most corrupt and incompetent people for being appointed to vital government posts.
Responding to Gilani’s statement in which he said Buland Akhtar Rana was being targeted due to his domicile of Multan, Nisar said the fault was not with Multan but with the prime minister, who was appointing corrupt and incapable person to key posts. The opposition leader said the prime minister should not defame Multan with his wrong decisions.
Nisar also rejected Gilani’s claim of having supported the Public Accounts Committee in recovering Rs 115 billion. “What should I comment on the statements of the prime minister, who does not even know that the government had no role in recovering the amount at all,” he said, adding that if the government had been serious, audit objection would not have emerged in the accounts of various government departments.
He advised the prime minister to explain the performance of his government rather than speaking about the PAC, as the government had broken all records of irregularities. Nisar said audit reports of the first two years of Gilani’s government were tabled in the PAC and indicated massive irregularities and embezzlements in the accounts. That led to restricting the PAC’s role by appointing a blue-eyed person as the auditor general, he added.
“The government is bent upon making a joke of the PAC, just like it has been mocking Supreme Court decisions,” Nisar said, expressing surprise over the prime minister’s justification of the appointment of the new auditor general. Nisar said the appointment had made the Prime Minister’s office a joke. “The prime minister passed remarks that are below the stature of his office,” he pointed out, adding that his decisions were controversial and could adversely affect the entire democratic system.
