Calling the army to help control the situation in Karachi under the civilian government will not be an unconstitutional act, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan said on Tuesday.
He was talking to journalists at the Lahore High Court (LHC). Aitzaz said that Karachi, the economic lifeline of the country, was burning and the matter was highly serious and concerning for everyone. The renowned lawyer said that terrorists have occupied localities.
The PPP leader supported Sindh Senior Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza adding that his statements had some importance. He said that recovery of sacked bodies happened in the late 80s and early 90s and it was not a new phenomenon. Aitzaz said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was the key to bring the situation to normality.
Karachi was a multi-ethnic city and everyone was not a terrorist, he said adding that some terrorists were taking shelter in some political parties and had made certain areas ‘no go.’ Aitzaz said that the government had not totally failed in controlling the situation. The PPP leader said that those officers who were not performing well should be replaced instead of asking the whole government to pack and leave.
