Judicial Commission meeting convened on 27th

The Judicial Commission will meet on August 27 to discuss the issue of confirmation of Sindh High Court (SHC)’s six ad hoc judges. The meeting will be presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at Islamabad. SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam, senior judge Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro, Sindh Bar Council’s representative Lala Yasin Babar, Attorney General Maulvi Anwar and Pakistan Bar Council’s representative Khalid Ranjha will also participate in the meeting.
The ad hoc judges of SHC are Justice Shahid Anwar Bajwa, Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai, Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Aqeel abbassi and Justice Irfan Saadat. Of the quota for 18, there are only six confirmed judges in the SHC and after the retirement of Justice Athar Saeed on August 29, their strength will fall to below 33 percent. The total strength of judges in the SHC is 40. Recently, 10 names for candidates of SHC judges were sent to the sub-committee of the Judicial Commission.
