The first young entrepreneurs exhibition started off on Saturday at Maisonette Lahore. Aimed at encouraging the young entrepreneurs of the country, this event was the first of its kind that focuses on youth from all spheres of life, to participate, promote and market their business ideas. Owing to lack of opportunities in the job market, entrepreneurship in Pakistan needs to be encouraged at all levels. This exhibition will enable aspiring businessmen and women, to create a clientele and promote their work. It was encouraging to see young girls and boys between the age groups of 17 to 26 to participate actively and display their talents.
Social networking has given a rise to such events happening in Pakistan regularly. While talking to Hafsa Shorish she said that given the high costs of marketing events through other platforms, facebook played a pivotal role to enable them to reach their target audience. She said that most of their marketing activities revolved around the social networking website. Events of this kind are not only the best way for the youth to interact and collaborate, but also provides them the motivation to pursue their dreams in life.
Talking to a group of talented young photographers who held their first photography exhibition at the event they said that they had pursued photography for a long time now, and this event has enabled them to display their work. Talking to Farah Jamal Khan, an aspiring photographer she said that she received an excellent response from people who visited her stall at the exhibition. Farah was of the view that such events need to take place on a regular basis so that the talented youth are able to display their talent.
While talking to the founders of the Eye on Lahore magazine and website, Shahnawaz Zali and Haider Abbas, said that they aim to open a youth portal where individuals from colleges and schools in Lahore, will be given a voice of their own to discuss various issues. They said that they would provide all sorts of coverage to events at colleges, student gatherings and happenings in Lahore. The two entrepreneurs told Pakistan Today that they started their business plan with no capital investment and now having marketed the product through different forums, they have been able to get sponsors like Coca Cola and ICI for their magazine. This magazine would be launched in the second week of September in Lahore.
Organised by Glamstop PR and Client Management, the creative director of the company Hafsa said that they have planned on holding such events in other cities of the country as well including Islamabad and Karachi. She said the response they had received was overwhelming and people of schools and colleges from Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Islamabad and other cities had traveled to Lahore to exhibit their business ideas. Members of the company were of the view that it was discouraging that companies do not tend to encourage such activities and that they had executed the exhibition without any financial backing. The company has also been involved in the online branding of these entrepreneurs through separate facebook pages, dedicated to the aspiring businessmen and women.
