A series of exhibitions arranged by the Alliance Against Sexual Harassment at workplace (AASHA) are continuing across the country to mark the decade-long working women’s movements and raise awareness about sexual harassment.
The shows are celebrating the passage of Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2010 until the month of September.
The awareness material and key highlights of the struggle are part of the display. Besides acknowledging the services of AASHA supporters, the awareness sessions for protection of women from sexual harassment are also being arranged during the celebrations at national level.
Talking to APP, Women Organisation for Rights and Development (WORD) Executive Director Aqsa Khan said the exhibitions and awareness sessions were getting positive response from the public.
The participants have demanded the government, media and policy makers’ support promoting zero tolerance for sexual harassment in the society, she added.
Through AASHA’s platform, women in Sindh demanded appointment of provincial ombudsperson on priority, Aqsa said, adding that the strengthening of inquiry committees for resolving cases swiftly and avoid external pressures was another concern for women across the country.
In the first phase, exhibition have been held in Islamabad, Quetta, Hyderabad and Karachi while the last exhibition before Eid would held on August 22-23 in Faisalabad.
After Eid break, the exhibitions will be arranged in another five cities including Sialkot, Multan, Lahore, Peshawar and Rawalpindi, she said.
